Uganda Global Medical Outreach
Blessings of Joy
In 2006, Blessings Of Joy opened its doors to the poor children mostly those orphaned by HIV/AIDS, with the Mweruka Primary School. In 2014 there were 360 students from age 4 through grade Primary 7 (ages 13-15). Our first teams visited this extremely impoverished school in 2012. While many improvements are seen yearly, much is needed to adequately provide care and assistance to these children and their teachers.
Mweruka is a remote village in the Kyanamukaaka Sub-County, in the Masaka district of Uganda. It is plagued with rampant poverty, malaria, and host of diseases caused by lack of nutrition, clean water and sanitation. The Mweruka Junior School was started by "Blessings Of Joy" to improve the lives of more children in the village. The school currently has no electricity, no accessible clean water, and only basic sanitation facilities. In spite of these hardships, our students are excelling in Ugandan academic testing. Dedicated teachers, new classrooms with cement floors, new latrines, improved nutrition; vitamins and deworming are making a difference in the health and lives of these children.
Green Village Children Centre (GVCC) is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-religious, organization that wasfounded in June 2006.The NGO currently implements projects in Mukungwe Sub County of Masaka District and specifically in the villages ofKasana, Kalagala, Lwabikere, Kayunga and Kitenga.
St Philomena Primary School caters to orphans and the less privileged children through education in the 5 villages of Lwabikere, Kalagala,Kitenga, Kayunga and Kasana, all located in Masaka district. These 5 villages have the highest number of HIV AIDS infected children compared with other HIV/AIDS ravaged areas and related diseases such as malaria, dysentery, whooping cough, and typhoid. THE HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among sex workers in Masaka district has risen to 66% at some landing sites.
Many of the children have no access to shelter, quality education, medical care, electricity or clothing. Establishing a primary school in the community has helped us rescue orphans and vulnerable children to have meaningful lives in the future.
